Microcement can be applied to almost any surface that is dry, stable, and properly primed, such as concrete, tile, wood, plasterboard, metal, and more. The material itself is available through suppliers like Epodex, who offer it in a range of colors, textures, and formulas designed for specific applications like floors, walls, and wet rooms.

A typical project runs one to three weeks from start to finish. Here is what that process looks like:

1. Clean the surface thoroughly, removing any dust, grease, or contaminants that could interfere with adhesion.
2. Repair any cracks or holes so the surface underneath is solid and stable. Existing grout lines get cleaned and filled with epoxy sand to create a smooth, even base.
3. Let everything dry completely. Moisture is the one condition microcement won't tolerate.
4. Lightly sand any smooth surfaces if needed to give the primer something to grip.
5. Apply a primer suited to the specific surface. This is what allows microcement to bond without mechanical fasteners or adhesive.
6. Apply two coats of microcement, with at least 12 hours between them.
7. Seal the surface 24 hours after the final coat. In wet rooms and showers, full use typically resumes within 24 to 48 hours depending on temperature and conditions.
