Why is Microcement important?
We like to think of microcement as an ideal solution to many of the most common surface problems in today's residential and even commercial spaces. Here's what it solves:
- It completely avoids the demolition phase, which can be loud, messy, expensive, and often adds 1–2 weeks to a project.
- It eliminates grout lines entirely, making it one of the easiest hard surfaces to keep clean. No scrubbing, no staining, no mold hiding in the cracks.
- The continuous, seamless surface makes your space feel more inviting and larger.
- The hand-applied texture and minimal aesthetic provides a modern-looking alternative to traditional tile and hardwood.
- Its durability holds up without the failure points found in other surfaces that send homeowners back to square one.
- It comes in 48+ colors with an organic texture you won't find anywhere else.
Why trust DuetRight on Microcement?
Before we offered microcement to a single client, we applied it in our own spaces. That's how confident we needed to be before putting our name on it. We've since completed projects across Seattle, and we work with it every week.
We're also recommended installers through Epodex, one of the leading microcement suppliers in the world. That relationship means we're working with the right materials and staying current on application standards.
But the most honest answer to "why trust us" is what our clients say after the project is done.
"These guys were the only ones who could do it right. They fully repaired the problem areas and then applied micro-cement on the walls, floor, and shower, creating a clean, modern, fully waterproof surface. The transformation is honestly incredible."

How Microcement Works
Microcement can be applied to almost any surface that is dry, stable, and properly primed, such as concrete, tile, wood, plasterboard, metal, and more. The material itself is available through suppliers like Epodex, who offer it in a range of colors, textures, and formulas designed for specific applications like floors, walls, and wet rooms.
A typical project runs one to three weeks from start to finish. Here is what that process looks like:
- Clean the surface thoroughly, removing any dust, grease, or contaminants that could interfere with adhesion.
- Repair any cracks or holes so the surface underneath is solid and stable. Existing grout lines get cleaned and filled with epoxy sand to create a smooth, even base.
- Let everything dry completely. Moisture is the one condition microcement won't tolerate.
- Lightly sand any smooth surfaces if needed to give the primer something to grip.
- Apply a primer suited to the specific surface. This is what allows microcement to bond without mechanical fasteners or adhesive.
- Apply two coats of microcement, with at least 12 hours between them.
- Seal the surface 24 hours after the final coat. In wet rooms and showers, full use typically resumes within 24 to 48 hours depending on temperature and conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
DuetRight's microcement projects average around $47 per square foot, including materials, application, and waterproofing. Substrate condition and surface complexity can affect final pricing.
For context, high-end waterproof applications in major metro areas typically run $50 to $80 per square foot. Get a quote for an accurate number on your specific project.
You can DIY, but it can be unforgiving. The most common problems are applying coats too thick, rushing the drying time between layers, and skipping proper surface prep. Those mistakes show up as cracking or uneven color within weeks, and they're nearly impossible to fix without starting over.
If it's your first time, a professional installation protects the investment. If you're committed to DIY, our Contractor Interview Questions resource is a good starting point for knowing what you're getting into.
With proper installation and routine maintenance, microcement lasts 15 to 20 years or more. Wall surfaces tend to last longer since they see less wear. The most important maintenance step is resealing every 2 to 3 years, which keeps the surface protected and looking sharp.
A pH-neutral cleaner and a microfiber mop are all you need for regular cleaning. Avoid bleach, ammonia, vinegar, abrasive scrubbers, and anything acid-based that strips the sealer over time. Wipe spills quickly, especially anything acidic. Reseal every 2 to 3 years and the surface will stay protected for decades.
Yes, when installed correctly. Microcement itself is porous — the sealer is what creates the waterproof barrier. A proper shower installation includes a waterproofing layer underneath, taped seams at the drain and wall edges, and a protective topcoat. Done right, it handles daily shower use for 15 to 20 years. This is the part of the job where installer experience matters most.
